Test World: Robber Camps Rework

The day is finally here for one of the most anticipated reworks to land a testing phase on 04.02.2025. The wait is over, and we are ready to test the first Robber Camps Rework iteration. This has been a longer project covering community discussions, debates, and new Game Design paths to discover. Please send us your feedback in an upcoming survey coming out mid-round, or join discussions in our Discord community.

The issues we wish to tackle include spawning times, spawn tile locations, opportunities between Kingdoms of different sizes, and avoiding the heavy organizing around looting. In addition, we aim to turn the Robber Camps into something more, a game element with a robust PvE system and interactive gameplay. In short, Robber Camps will offer more fairness and variety for different types of players in the future.

🔎 What will we be testing?

Spawn behavior: Camps will spawn during active hours in Wilderness tiles around Treasuries. This means no more “night camps” and no need to worry about blocking the settleable areas where Camps can appear. In addition, Wilderness tiles allow Camps to spawn beyond your kingdom borders. The number of camps is reduced, and Camps come with a cooldown timer that allows more time for participation per Camp. A “Last Chance” mode is included if all Camps are not completed in time to allow smaller Kingdoms to catch up.

Camp variety: Robber Camp types will be represented visually, and you can interact with the Camps by attacking, defending, and potentially other ways in the future, such as contributing resources or espionage. More on that later.

Troop gathering: A simplified Rally mechanic to help coordinate your attacks within the given time window. Your troops will be stationed at the Camp until the time window closes before being sent back to their original location together with loot.

Limitations: For a fairer experience, we’ve limited the number of Camps a player can engage with and set a min/max number of Units you can send. You can participate only in one Camp per Robber Camp event and cannot send reinforcements after participating. Rewards are also limited to match your contributions per Camp. If your Kingdom has less than five members or no Treasury, you will not be able to interact with the Camps, as no Camps will spawn.

Difficulty levels: Camps will scale with the Game World age and the average strength of your Kingdom members. For example, Kingdom A can have Level 5 Attack Camps and Level 7 Defense Camps, while Kingdom B can have Level 6 Attack Camps and Level 4 Defense Camps. The max difficulty level is capped based on the age of the world. In addition, Robbers no longer send attacks against players.

Rewards: Difficulty level-based reward pools and loot tables will help you decide which action is worth your time. Too many participants in one camp will lead to diminishing returns, so try discovering the sweet spot with your Kingdom. We will start with basic rewards such as resources and stolen goods. More rewards will be unlocked in future iterations, but that’s enough of a teaser for today. 😉

Timely information: Spawning is part of an overlay element on World Map with visual cues, and you will get timely notifications when it’s time to prepare. New reports are summarized and sent to the participants and Kingdom royalty after a successful or failed mission.
